Spring Break: Seattle

The 2017 Spring trip saw Barbary Coast head North to the city of Seattle, Washington for some vacation, team-bonding, and an opportunity to meet more out-of-state opponents - KAVU Lax and Seattle Lacrosse Club. BC played two games on the weekend: a Saturday evening game against KAVU (BC 16 - KAVU 12) followed by up a midday contest against Seattle LC (BC 11 - SLC 10). Both games exhibited a spirit of friendly competition and high-quality lacrosse from all teams. A massive thank you to Team KAVU and the Seattle LC for hosting the games and being so welcoming, we will hopefully meet again in the future. BC...

BC Kicks Off 2016 in Scrimmage Against Cal

The University of California Berkeley Bears invited Barbary Coast to friendly, pre-season scrimmage held at the California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley. A disciplined and well-coached Bears team controlled the first half of the game, earning several quick goals that led them to a 4-3 lead going into halftime.  The BC offense was sparked by dodging efforts from Kevin Nguygen, Kevin Busch, and Nick Richards resulting in goals from Dan Vilar, Logan Quinn, Max Raynor, Kyle Jordan, and Tom Bendon (yes - that Tom Bendon).   BC struggled to earn possession against a resilient and scrappy Bears...

BARBARY COAST 2015 CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPIONS

After wrestling the California trophy away from Olympic Club in a tight Northern California Championship game played in Sausalito, Barbary Coast had to best a final opponent before the trophy was wholly ours.  BC headed down to face the talented Beverly Hills Bucks in the CA State Championship held at Culver City High School in greater Los Angeles. BC started out with a bang, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and keeping the Bucks well away from contention all the way to an 8-2 halftime score. BC played excellent defense with massive saves by Tyler Page, Matt Levy, and Mark...

First Ever BC Alumni Weekend the Start of a Great Tradition

This weekend marked the first annual Barbary Coast Alumni Weekend.  Massive shoutouts to Tyler Kreitz for organizing the effort and Adi Taylor for curating game-day music and hosting the squad for an evening Hall of Fame Roast at his bar Drexl in Oakland. Medal of Honor goes out to Logan Quinn for providing a pair of kegs for the afternoon. BC legends old and new, great lacrosse, sunny Sausalito, post-game dogs and burgers, wives, friends, girlfriends, children, families, canine compadres, chips and salsa, what else can be said? More importantly, the afternoon was a terrific way to honor the 17 year...

Barbary Skips Past Marin in OT Win

A rained-out Saturday rematch again Marin was moved to a Wednesday night showdown at Morton Field in the Presidio less than 24 hours after the two-for-one Cinco De Mayo/Taco Tuesday. In painful memory of the 2014 playoff game - same opponent, same field - Barbary Coast was slow to start, slipping to a 4-0 deficit at the end of the first half of play.  After a speedy recalibration at halftime, Kevin "Shaolin" Nguyen put BC on the board with a cheeky between-the-legs goal.  Marin immediately matched this effort with a goal off of the ensuing faceoff. The BC defense would hold, allowing for a 4 goal...

Barbary Coast 11 – Olympic Club 6

Good guys win again.  BC notches another quality, team win after a tough loss to Marin the previous weekend. Stand out performances include Matt Levy and Mark Bloomquist in cage, Logan Quinn at midfield, Max T with a few timely buckets, Kyle Jordan's dad, and a salty high-to-high lefty rip (on the run, mind you) from Nicole Richards. Honorable mentions include mean defense in the form of Joe Vila and Connor Handy. Matt Rudow's flowing curls. This game marked the debut of new light jerseys and Nike shorts courtesy of Blake Kim and Tyler Page. Never one for semantics, Tom Bendon characterized...

Love Don’t Live Here Anymore: BC 13 – CaliLove 5

The third game of the season, the first in Sausalito this year, found BC comfortable at home with a convincing 13-5 win over CaliLove.  Barbary kept control of the game from start to finish. Key takeaways: - The team is reportedly failing to meet Chris-Clark-levels of post-win reverie. - TRK hates techno. And snapchat. And young people. - Tom Jackson.

BC Rises Above Eastbay Athletics in Berkeley Showdown

Eastbay held a close game with BC until the fourth quarter when Barbary pulled away for a 15 - 9 win over one of the league's newest additions. The game was marked by hard-fought, team-oriented play with more than 10 BC goals being assisted.  The record will reflect that Nick Richards assisted all of his own goals. Offensive highlights included 4 buckets from Matt Graupmann, another strong midfield showing by Logan Quinn, and a coldblooded Colin Short at attack. Pat Connelly, Joe Zingone, and Connor 'Big Tree Fall Hard' Handy held the line on defense, providing ardent support to Tyler...

Barbary Coast Cruises Past Palo Alto in Season Opener

BC opened up with a 14-4 win over the Palo Alto Ducks in the first game of the 2015 season. The BC clan steps into 2015 with new jerseys, new helmets, and a host of new players.  With so many new players it was tough to tell in advance what type of play would be seen in Game 1 of the new season. True to BC principles the game was marked by a team effort with scoring spread across many players; domination at the face off X by Matt Rudow, Mike Vila, and Mike Kanach; hustle plays by midfielders between the lines; and hard nosed defense from Joe Zingone, Frank Cuneo, and stand out goalie play...
