The first round of the NCLA playoffs found BC taking on Marin for the second time in two weeks and the fourth time this season. The teams had previously traded wins: Marin won convincingly (9-3) in the first meeting, BC ran it back (8-6) in the next game, and Marin squeezed out an 8-7 win just last week.
The semi-final game began in similar fashion, both teams executing well and trading goals throughout the first quarter. Going goal-for-goal early on, the game was tied 5-5 halfway through the second quarter. After one or two unpalatable calls, Marin unravelled a bit, with one of their...

BC and Marin met for the third time this season at Beach Chalet fields on Friday evening, June 2nd. With a tied record of 1-1 in their 2017 encounters and playoffs rapidly approaching, the game was destined to be close.
Marin came out ready to play and began firing early, relying on big saves by their goalie (who arrived at the game late and slightly bloodied from a motor-scooter accident en route to the evening's game) to turn defensive stands into offensive looks. Marin jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead over Barbary Coast in the first quarter.
BC rallied behind big-time saves from goalie...

East Bay Athletic Club invited Barbary Coast for an off-schedule, mid-week friendly game in South San Francisco on May 31st. An always talented team, East Bay has grown rapidly in its early several years in the NCLA and have been dominant in the league's B-Division. BC and EastBay faced off earlier in the 2017 season for a regular season game as well.
Heavy fog and limited field lighting made for a highly contested, transition-heavy game in which East Bay dominated the face-off X. BC relied on a strong defensive performance led by excellent goalie play from George Valenzuela and Matt...

BC took the field against San Francisco Lacrosse Club in a chilly, mid-week game held later in the evening with an 8:00 pm start-time.
The game started off with a bang, BC causing a turnover off the first face-off, snagging the GB, and executing several tic-tac-toe passes resulting in a behind-the-back goal from LSM Frank "Hitman" Cuneo, who returns to the field after being sidelined with an injury for 3 weeks. The Barbary face-off unit was tough to stop, Yosef Becher and Dick Lizards winning nearly all their first half draws to afford BC extra possessions. In an absolutely shocking turn of events,...

After 3 tough losses in a row, BC was able to turn the tide in a key 8-6 win over Marin Lacrosse Club in the teams' second meeting this season.
This game marked the return of President and attackman Kevin Nguyen, fresh off the injury list, who quickly ran off with a hat-trick in the first quarter to give BC an early lead - welcome back, Senator Nguyen. The BC offense was supported by goals from Max Tcheyan, Colin Short, Kevin Busch, and a #VeryRare high-to-high goal, from Steve Caditz, from 18 yards. In a post-game interview, Caditz confirmed that he was indeed aiming bottom left, but reported...

BC faced off against Olympic Club twice in one week with a pair of Friday night games which featured a highly-talented, efficient O.Club offense and "less-than-exemplary" performances from BC. Barbary fell short in each game, losing 9-6 and 11-6, respectively. In a sullen turn of events, BC is presently challenged to ride-out this season's low-point, 3 straight losses, and double-digit injuries in the hope of keeping their record above .500.
Despite internal obstacles, BC has been challenged to match the 2017 Olympic Club team - among the best the Club has fielded in several seasons. OC's...

Barbary Coast and Marin Lacrosse Club had their first encounter of the 2017 season in a Saturday morning game held at Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, CA. The game got off to a balanced start, with each team playing hard between the lines and trading early goals in the first quarter. In the first half BC was led by a strong defensive performance from Matt Levy in cage and Frank Cuneo, who generated six caused turnovers in the first quarter alone. The BC offense saw goals from attackmen Skyler Hopkins and Dan Vilar, yet Marin led 5-2 going into half.
BC continued its defensive stand...

The previous weekend's California sunshine was not to continue as Barbary Coast and East Bay Athletics took the field on a windy, rainy evening at Beach Chalet Fields (located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park at Ocean Beach). Both teams showed up ready to play, getting off to hard-hitting start in-between the lines. Strong play by BC's Yosef Becher at the face-off X afforded BC numerous possessions but the East Bay defense was up to the task, both East Bay goalies were solid in cage and their defense won the ground ball game over the course of the evening. However, deliberate offensive...

Barbary Coast began it's 2017 NCLA season with a double-header weekend, playing league games against Olympic Club and Palo Alto Lacrosse Club.
BC took on Olympic Club in the first game of the weekend on Friday night, jumping out to any early lead with Olympic Club tallying back immediately after. The first half favored Barbary Coast, but only slightly. Both teams went goal-for-goal, with BC leading 5-4 going into halftime. Strong transition play and an effective ride allowed Olympic Club to outscore Barbary 4-1 in the second half and ultimately end up on top, winning 9-6 when it was all said...

The 2017 Spring trip saw Barbary Coast head North to the city of Seattle, Washington for some vacation, team-bonding, and an opportunity to meet more out-of-state opponents - KAVU Lax and Seattle Lacrosse Club.
BC played two games on the weekend: a Saturday evening game against KAVU (BC 16 - KAVU 12) followed by up a midday contest against Seattle LC (BC 11 - SLC 10). Both games exhibited a spirit of friendly competition and high-quality lacrosse from all teams. A massive thank you to Team KAVU and the Seattle LC for hosting the games and being so welcoming, we will hopefully meet again in the future.
