BC Slips to 4-2 After Marin Loss
Barbary Coast and Marin Lacrosse Club had their first encounter of the 2017 season in a Saturday morning game held at Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, CA. The game got off to a balanced start, with each team playing hard between the lines and trading early goals in the first quarter. In the first half BC was led by a strong defensive performance from Matt Levy in cage and Frank Cuneo, who generated six caused turnovers in the first quarter alone. The BC offense saw goals from attackmen Skyler Hopkins and Dan Vilar, yet Marin led 5-2 going into half.
BC continued its defensive stand with Tyler Page taking over goaltending duties, Mik Tareen snagging a handful of groundballs, and Alex Sadler playing lock-down defense. However, 2017 shows a younger, deeper Marin team who played disciplined defense and effectively cleared the ball to win the possession game. BC generated effective offensive looks in the third and fourth quarters, but the Marin goalie played lights out, making an offensive amount of saves to keep the ball in Marin hands. When the dust settled, Marin came out comfortably on top 9-3 over Barbary.
Credit to Marin for a game well-played, we’ll look forward to seeing them again in a few weeks. Next up for BC is a second-chance at Olympic Club at 7:00 pm PDT at Beach Chalet fields on Friday, 4/21.
