Barbary Wins 9-5 Over East Bay in Season Opener
In the first league game of the 2016 season, BC headed out to Orinda, CA to play the talented and growing East Bay Athletics. The mid-day contest enjoyed a cloudless, sunny sky and 75 degree temperature, field turf courtesy of Miramonte High School, warm-up soundsystem/soundtrack by East Bay, and a host of friends and family as fans.
Both teams quickly shook out the off-season rust with early goals and tough transition play. The BC offense was led by Andres “Cito” Williams, Logan Quinn, and Kevin Busch supplemented by stand-out faceoff play at the X by Matt Rudow. Holding the line on defense was Connor “Big Cat” Handy, Frank Cuneo, and even a celebrity appearance from Joe Vila himself. Goalies Matt Levy and Mark Bloomquist kept East Bay out of the net, allowing BC to end up on the top end of a 9 to 5 final score.
Big shout out to Sasha and the Dansky clan for hosting a post-game celebration at his place in Lafayette complete with libations, hot-dogs, and spike-ball. A big thank you to our East Bay friends for hosting us and making the first game of the NCLA season an enjoyable success, we look forward to seeing them on the field later in the season.
