2017 Season Kick Off: BC Goes 1-1 to Start Season

Barbary Coast began it’s 2017 NCLA season with a double-header weekend, playing league games against Olympic Club and Palo Alto Lacrosse Club.

BC took on Olympic Club in the first game of the weekend on Friday night, jumping out to any early lead with Olympic Club tallying back immediately after.  The first half favored Barbary Coast, but only slightly.  Both teams went goal-for-goal, with BC leading 5-4 going into halftime.  Strong transition play and an effective ride allowed Olympic Club to outscore Barbary 4-1 in the second half and ultimately end up on top, winning 9-6 when it was all said and done.  Hats off to Olympic Club for a game well-played, BC will look forward to seeing O.Club at least twice more during the regular season.

12 hours later, Barbary headed down to Palo Alto to take on the Ducks on a cloudless, 80 degree day in the Peninsula.  Flawless face-off play by Nick Richards, Yosef Becher, and Frank Cuneo kept the ball in BC’s hands, with fast-paced goals from Kevin Busch, Kevin Nguyen, Dean Granoff, Dan Vilar, and Colin Short giving BC a sizable early lead.  The record should reflect celebrity appearances from Sasha Danksy, Tyler Kreitz, and Mike Kanach.  George Valenzuela was rock solid in goal, shutting Palo Alto out for four quarters and giving BC a 12-0 win.

Next up is another double-header weekend, with BC facing off against East Bay Athletics at Beach Chalet Fields in San Francisco on Friday night and against Sacramento on Sunday afternoon.
